Retrieval augmented generation
A technique that improves a language model's answers by retrieving relevant passages from your own documents and adding them to the prompt, so the model answers from sources instead of from memory alone.
Single-hop reasoning
Answering a question in one step, by retrieving the passages most similar to it and generating a response from them. It's the default pattern in RAG systems, reliable when the answer sits in one place and weak when it has to be assembled from several.
GraphRAG
GraphRAG combines knowledge graphs with retrieval-augmented generation. Where ordinary RAG returns the passages most similar to a question, GraphRAG extracts the entities and relationships in a document collection and answers by following the connections between them, which is what questions about critiques, influences, or curriculum coverage need.
