Invited presentation for students participating in an EU-funded Blended Intensive Programme

Overview

A presentation for students asking a central question: when AI can produce the artifact, what is the work?

The session starts from the observation that traditional assessment relied on the effort required to produce an artifact as a proxy for learning, and that AI has broken that proxy. The question isn’t how to stop students using AI; it’s what meaningful engagement looks like when AI is available and able to create all proxies for learning.

The presentation examines:

  • What problem-based learning already does differently (centring engagement over artifact quality, distributing authority to the learner, and making reasoning visible)
  • How AI changes what’s possible within PBL (harder problems become accessible, AI joins the group as a thinking partner)
  • What it means for students to act as orchestrators of inquiry rather than just users of a tool.

The session closes with three practical shifts immediately available to students.
