Vanessa Burch spent most of her career building health professions education into a field in South Africa — SAFRI, the African Journal of Health Professions Education, and a long list of people she brought along with her. Rather than one piece of research, we cover twenty-five years: how the opportunities for early-career educators have changed, how you find the confidence to approach people you want to work with, and how she goes about writing. Her own line is the one I keep coming back to — that the most rewarding thing is not what she achieved but what she has watched others achieve.
